I wanted to write about the latest shooting spree in Tucson Arizona. Then I remembered that I wrote about gun violence in April 2007 after another incident. I wanted to remind myself of the huge difference between our countries...a lot of which is the result of America's incomprehensible Gun addiction.
There are 2.3 million American and 225,000 Canadian deaths every year. Of those 30,000 Americans commit suicide every year (80/day) compared to 4,000 Canadians (10/day), again quite similar. BUT, in the USA there are 14,000 Murders per Year (38/day) 10,000 of which (27/day) are the result of GUNS. Canada has about 175 Gun/Murders per year (1 every 2nd day).
So once again, I've discussed this issue. Which is why I am truly humbled by anyone who can still manage to find the time and effort to blog, especially if they are on Facebook!?
If one were to liken the Interwebz to oh, um, let's say a "Ladies Prison Film", just for instance.
Then I'm just your run-of-the-mill, opportunistic, night-shift guard who exhibits very poor impulse control when faced with any ethical dilemma.
Miss Blog is a wholesome, wrongly-accused, sews-her-own-clothes, nice, smart, cornfed gal (with a few issues) from 'Mensa' Arizonee.
However whistling at me from the next cell, smothered in baby oil, is a buck-nekked, jaw-droppin' Miz Facebook who is a nymphomaniacal, G-note/night pro from Lost Wages, Nevada who wants to give you that once-in-a-lifetime-toe-curling-kama-sutric experience every night.
I am not made of steel.
Okay seriously, it's not that great, it's just the path of least resistance thingamabob. The spirit is 'chillin' and the flesh is weak.
TUT!

I know I know..you always expect me to raise the bar but I've said evrything and nobody cares what I think so I have a hard time trying to justify my web diary and feel guilty about wasting people's time.
Do not worry, Mr Coppens, I for one am quite capable of wasting my own time. I am a grown up.

it's all about what works best for you, sugar! fb works when i'm posting general stuff i feel like sharing and keeping in touch with associates. my blog is for my friends and close family which is why i use both. xoxoxxxo
ReplyDeletelol.. reasoning like that makes me stop and rethink my decision last march to leave fb..hahah
ReplyDeleteWhy not have your cake and eat it too?
ReplyDeleteI find myself, having been deprived of the inspiration to write, considering some introspective drivel about blogging*. I'm hoping that I can resist. Just write when you feel like it, and we will all be here to read it. It is as simple as that.
ReplyDelete*Not implying that your post falls into that category - just saying you don't have to write if you don't want to.
I think it was going to Books-a-million and looking around at those millions of books that no one was actually going to pay for and take home to read that I wondered to myself...."and MY blog amounts to WHAT?"
ReplyDeleteWhen I can start thinking like David Sedaris, I MIGHT start blogging again. I just have to get it out of my head that I'm not in it for the numbers of commenters or followers I get, but how it makes me feel by the last period, especially since no one is paying me a dime to write it.
When will the Freakin' Green Elf Shorts be moving on?
ReplyDeleteYes, Mr Coppens, when will you be sending ME the FGES?
ReplyDelete*Look into my eyes... not around the eyes...*

I want a front-row seat on your imagination. As for me, it's not the blogging that I like but the tweaking of blog templates (and to keep doing that requires that I blog *something*). I was a web designer in a previous life that I'm too old to have lived. (Figure that one out.) Damn that Facebook anyway.
ReplyDeleteGidget
My sympathies dear. My blog is dying and there I am on twitter and Facebook.
ReplyDeleteI should be ashamed and but I am not. Well, not much anyway.
Facebook - mindless day-to-day trivalities
ReplyDeleteBlogger - actual thoughts
No worries :)
Yes, there does seem to be a lot of the crime in the US compared to Canada...
ReplyDeleteBut has anyone blogged about the atrocity that Canada has inflicted upon the world?
It's one of the reason why Americans keep firearms!
CALGARY — A man is wanted for his brush with the law after an armed robbery at a 7-Eleven in the city's southeast.
ReplyDeleteA masked man wielding a snow brush held up the store Tuesday, police said.
But Donn, you all have rampant snow brush crime!! :-D
I crossed the border earlier this week and felt my jaw drop when the U.S. border patrol guard stated that "Americans are a violent people. When you look at the numbers, it seems that almost every man, woman and child possesses a firearm."
ReplyDeleteHe even let me cross over with an expired passport! I wonder if he was a Canadian in disguise.
This is not the first of your posts I've read, and you never cease to amaze me. Thank you, and I look forward to reading more.
