PIRATING KEITH RICHARRRDS!

Does Johnny_Depp owe Keith_Richards one half of the millions of dollars that he earned for his portrayal of Captain Jack Sparrow in the Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy?

Wouldn't you agree that the entire Corporate World is all about BRANDING?

These days an identifiable Brand is a globally protected commodity.
"A brand is asymbolic embodiment of all the information connected to the product and serves to create associations and expectations around it. A brand often includes a logo, fonts, colour schemes, symbols, and sound, which may be developed to represent implicit values, ideas, and even personality."
Keith_Richards has spent years and years perfecting the BRAND image of Keith Richards Rock and Roll Superstar Survivor. Keith is THE symbollic embodiment, the epitome of the sex, drugs, and ROCK N ROLL SUPERSTAR. His brand is even more valuable because
Keith won't sell out like all of the other aging Rock Stars, even his partner Mick Jagger, who are getting Knighted! Puh-leeeze!
Who amongst us does not marvel at the fact that Keif is still above ground and able walk in broad daylight without exploding into a vampiric powder?
For years many pundits have speculated that after a Nuclear War the only survivors may very well be Cockroaches, Rats, and Keif!

That being said, Keith is obviously in on the joke about his essence being pirated in Pirates since he agreed to appear as Jack's Dad. OK he doesn't need the money The_Rolling_Stones are still the number one moneymaking concert band in the world.

Keith is a good sport much like Queen Elizabeth II is for not garnishing Helen Mirren's wages.(whew!)

God Bless you Mum!

On the other hand which aging Rock Star on the where are they now list would crawl out of the woodwork to try to cash in on someone cashing in on them?

Let's face it there aren't too many originals out there anymore so it would have to be an old geezer from the 60s or 70s. How may one of a kind Rock Stars can you even identify from different decades that are truly originals?

Your post makes me think of an election mail my daughters got today : the photo of three young people wanting to be elected and one stands in a typical posture of James Bond, the text says : your agent in the senate :-)
P.S. The fish : yes, in our pond. And indeed watching fish swimming makes our brain waves slow down so that you come in a relaxed state (condition ? aaaaaaa, English can be difficult sometimes)

  3. At least Johnny didn't try and hide the fact that he fashioned himself after Keith :). I love Keith and no doubt he'll be around lot longer yet -he has said he comes from a family known for their longevity. Ah, they don't make em like old Keef anymore. There'll be no one worth ripping off from the current crop of "stars" and I can't even think of anyone from the past who stands out as original-except the lovely Keith. When I say "lovely" -I mean when he was young ;).

  4. I bet there were a lot of kids who had no idea who Keith Richards was before the pirates movies. Those big bucks the Stones are making come from other old farts like me!

  5. i like the view,
Mr Richards is only 163, I mean 63, but he looks a lot older.
Keith is amazing and despite his disdain for moisturizers I think that he enjoys Life immensely and how many of us can say that.

    hildegarde,
Your English is wonderful. Fish are strangely relaxing to watch..unless it is a Great White Shark lazily rising from the deep abyss below up towards your exposed little toes.

    lee,
Yes you are right, Johnny didn't try to hide it and it was mean't as a compliment to Keith for being such a quirky original.

The Richards must have amazing DNA! They should be marketing that stuff as the Elixer of Youth.

    miss cellania,
You're prolly right about teeny bopper girls not knowing who he is but I think that most teenage boys are sat down by their father's and given 'the talk' explaining that

just because dear old Dad & Keith Richards survived the 60s and 70s submerged in a world of sex, drugs and Rock n Roll, doesn't mean that it's OK.

It is known as the hypocritic oath!

  6. I gotta admit I enjoyed that part with Keith Richards in the movie. Didn't think he minded being cloned by Depp at all. :D

    Thinking about the greats,

Where to start.... Some on musical talent like Ottis Redding, others just on pure attitude like Sid Vicous (absense of musical talent).. Political pull like the Great John Lennon.. Keith Richards.. there is something about all of them that draws you to them.. Unlike the vacuous celebutauntes of our generation.

Identifying them? i guess you just know.

I am sure he did love it,
for once he isn't playing second fiddle to Mick Whatshisface.

    aidan,
It is hard to think of somebody original after the 80s..hmmm..some of them looked weird but don't have the musical chops to back it up...hmmm

I still listen to Sid Vicious barf his way though MyWay every week! LUV IT!

    keshiroo,
Aha! I'll tell you about 'older men' kesh, ladies quickly forget about refractory periods and stamina when they are overwhelmed, exhausted and shuddering uncontrollably from multiple tsunamic explosions in the Southern Hemisphere that have been manipulated with finesse and patient expertise!

Believe it or not some of us actually figure it out.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Haha Kind of hard to follow that!

Johnny Depp will be just as sexy at 60! Keith playing his father is great.

We're rather hard on musicians these days, there's a few diamonds out there, we just have to look a little harder.

This is a golden era for Geriatric Groupies. ..and you don't have to stay up all night because all of these aging rockers are asleep by 10:30!

    cazzie,
Yes! The best thing about Bowie is that he has had so many personas since the 60s..he wore a dress and looked like Lauren Bacall for a year, he was a Folkie, Glam Rocker Ziggy, Thin White Duke, Alien, Electronica Mentor Bowie....I guess that is why he is my fave.
    He is the chameleon.

    hi christine,
HA! I guess er..that I um..sort of overcompensated but that damn Johnny Depp just makes it harder for all of us..and he doesn't seem to even care?!

That's what makes Depp so damn irresistable isn't it? He isn't even trying to be a sex symbol.
He looks like crap in every second photo and he still looks fantastic compared to most of us. It just isn't fair!

    spentrails,
I am afraid that I may have overstated the facts in suggesting that other men in my age bracket have been paying attention all these years. Perhaps it is fodder for more urban legend.

    i like the view,

Fabulous list! I might add Little Richard & James Brown without whom there would not have been a Prince or Michael whatshisface.

  22. hi irene,
Missed you too. I was looking over all of the weird, edgy movies that johnny made..I was wondering if he purposefully stayed outside of the superstar thing on his own volition?..is he really such a regular guy? I mean this is a kid who is hanging out with Brando?

Keith is the modern day Methuselah (oldest dude in the Bible) and I predict that he will live for one thousand years.

  23. I love older men, after all I'm married to one. *g* But Keith isn't old, Jeebus, he's Dorian Gray in reverse!

  24. Cmon...who, really, could or would make a knight out of Keif? The queen is enough of a joke already...

He's an icon because like Depp, he doesn't TRY to be anything other than what he is: a stonehead.

I think there are plenty of true individuals, bad or good.

Even Milli Vanilli are icons for pulling the wool over an entire planet's eyes for pretending to be something they weren't.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I know you enjoyed The Queen, you got me all excited about seeing it and when I finally did I was disappointed. Don't you think they should have concentrated on her life instead of Diana's death and how she handled it. She's done many great things, I thought it a shame to exclude them. I agree with you on Helen Mirren's performance though, fantastic!

    ReplyDelete
  26. jocelyn,
Keith is magical, he may not even be human.

    Three cheers for older men!
Groucho Marx said that you are only as old as the woman you feel.

    we're at our wit's end,
How dare you besmudge the good name of our Queen and Keith Richards in the same comment!

Surely you are overtired or drunk or have you let your high spirits get the better of you.
Come back tomorrow when you have had a chance to sober up and apologise properly.
    Good Day to you sir!

    christine,
Yes they could have shown her being a mechanic during WW2 and how jealous she must have been of her groovy sister Margaret who was hot and happenin' in the 60s & 70s.

She has always been so stoic and rigid and BBC proper, stiff upper lip and all that, and I think that they did a great job of exposing the clash of the civilizations. Mirren was superb.

It was a sleepy little affair but I think that her life moves at a glacial pace. I cringe at the thought of the monarchy but I like Lizbeth. Hopefully she is the last.
They should go out on top.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I know he isn't from the 60s or 70s, but I'd add Prince to the list and even Michael Jackson.
