BIG GIRLS DON'T CRY
Do you ever get a song stuck in your head that you can't extract.
I have the song Big Girls Don't Cry by Fergie, yes this Fergie, wedged in between my ears.

The damn chorus is so catchy!

OK look I admit that I really liked the retro groovy sound of the song Where is the Love by her band the Black Eyed Peas, but I don't find her other material exactly Fergalicious .
It started harmlessly enough with the Music Station on in the background and then this song came on and this chorus keeps swirling around in my brain.

"I hope you know, I hope you know
That this has nothing to do with you
It's personal, myself and I
We got some straightening out to do
And I'm gonna miss you like a child misses their blanket
But I've gotta get a move on with my life
It's time to be a big girl now
And big girls don't cry

Don't cry, Don't cry, Don't cry"

Ok I have blasted Utah Saints, Aphrodite's Child, INXS, New York Dolls, Be Good Tanyas, Arcade Fire, Marble Index, Roxy Music, and even Barry Manilow trying to get this song out of me 'ead!

You know what? Most of the time we complain, kvetch, or rant, about matters that will never darken our doorstep. Often times I imagine that most of you are shaking your heads at my preposterous notions that are so superficial or trivial that most of you would probably say,
"If I had your problems
I'd burn mine."
Yesterday while checking in on this lovely, talented, 250 year old painter from Kansas whose nom de blog is The Labrat , I was shocked to see the current state of affairs that engulfs her family and community. I would not be nearly as collected and stoic as she appears to be.

In lieu of whinging about something superficial like a song stuck in my head all weekend I would much rather encourage a few of you compassionate souls to click your heels together and fly off to Kansas because Dorothy was right, there is no place like home.

  3. I was amazed when I read that they were still dealing with life, "jobs, meals, deadlines, etc". I don't think I could remain so organized if I were in a similar situation. I think the world would just stop for me while I coped.

As far as the song - I love it too! It was on my blog for about two weeks. And I agree - Black Eyed Peas were much more enjoyable than Fergie on her own.

  4. songs stuck in our heads, floods of huge proportions. . .

it's all a balance tho really in the end, isn't it

on the one side the thousands and thousands of "silly" gripes that fill our day to day lives, the minutiae that we mull over when there is nothing else to distract us in moments of lack of focus on the bug stuff. . .

. . .on the other the one or two huge events that change our lives entirely, such as your friend is currently experiencing

and sometimes, like say here, and thru this medium, we are "saved" from experiencing the huge events ourselves - but do so vicariously anyhow, and thus we achieve a view on the balance with our own minutiae

thank you for such a thoughtful post, I hope the waters recede and the damage can be repaired in time

  5. It could be worse.

She could have flooding AND Barry Manilow's Copacabana stuck in her head!

That song is nice, I have not seen or heard it before now.
The storms there are not unlike what is happening up in NSW here this past week. My friend Phishez talks about it in here current post. And this from mour NEWS today..

  8. Dios mio... I do not envy her her position and wish them all the best... so hard but you know, there is no choice at times but to simply forge ahead or crumble... and crumbling simply is not an option.

As for the song, ay! They played her here for a while and, though not crazy as to how she is promoting herself with the whole solo thing (I just don't get why women who have already made it so readily and willingly objectify themselves rather than use what they have, the chance, the status to truly create and be amazing) her diddies are damn catchy FO SHO!

The BEP song about the "lady lumps", hated by feminists everywhere, always has me laughing my ass off and singing along, to everyone's bafflement but you know, sometimes we just need a good laugh!

And *sigh*, there truly is no place like home (and YES, we now have a DATE as to our homecoming! *Gaspetty GASP*)
