EVERYBODY IS A SONG

People are like Songs

They can be Country, Rock N Roll , Reggae, Disco, Classical, Swing, Folk or Pop
but they are all Music to someone's ears

Many Songs have an unforgettable Melody
but their insipid, uninspired, Lyrics ruin it

Others have brilliant Lyrics that go unheard
buried beneath a cacophony of noise

Far too many Songs have one line hooks
that get stuck in your brain all day long

Some Songs transport you back to simpler times

while others make you wonder about tomorrow

One Song may make you laugh and jump for joy
but another can make you sad enough to cry

Too often you hear the same Song over and over and over
and even if it is great, you stop listening

There are anthems that strike a chord with all of us
and we can recognize them after hearing a single note

Some Songs are robotic and rhythmic
others unique and acapelic

Most Songs rely on a Producer
and very few would ever get heard without a Program Director

Every once in a while you discover a Song that has it all,
brilliant lyrics soaring atop a rhapsodic melody
that grabs you like a wave and sweeps you out to sea
These Songs are my Friends
and I always listen to the entire Album

Some Songs are total Rip Offs
that you’ve heard a million times before

A lot of Songs are contractually obligated filler
that accompany a lonely Hit Single.

We organize Songs by Mood, Genre, Length, Titles and Tempo
but it is usually how they make us feel
that determines how much and how often we listen
and try to understand that song

Sometimes we start off on the wrong note
and we need to listen a few times before we can truly appreciate them

Of course I am preaching to choir
and I probably sound like a broken record

WHAT ARE PEOPLE HEARING FROM YOU?
and what are you hearing from me?

    What people hear from me.
My body is an orchestra at night. In perfect tune with the Rhythmic snoring and kicking of the good lady...

I could not imagine my life without music, long walks with the head phones in, bopping along to a beat no one except myself can hear...

    What people hear from you..
From you your song is sometimes angry, sometimes funny, but always thought provoking. Marilyn Manson meets Weird Al Yankovick:)

  2. What people hear from you is the entire 800-volume sets of the Best 1,000 songs from Britain, America, Australia and whatever other country and era.

It never ceases to amaze me how wide-ranging your knowledge of music is, from young to old.

And that parallels the variety of thoughts and opinions and knowledge you have about everything.

You're Mr. DJ and Mr. Philosophy and Mr. Nature and Mr. Religion all rolled into one, all at the same time.

Me, I figure people mostly hear acoustic guitar, slower tunes with feeling...but maybe they hear Tiny Tim and his ukelele or a kazoo for all I know...

  3. Not too sure what sort of music I'm transmitting, but from you, Donn, in between the funny, the frivolous, the furious, I hear "good."
A lovely post today, when we all need a softer note.Thanks.

  4. Some one said about music that I like,

    You were the right age,
    At the right time,
    Listening to the right music!

    I guess that's right!

  5. From me? I have no idea... Probably a cacophany of crap! A symphony of scum, a brainfull of balderdash! From you, about the same. :)

  6. I don't think anyone is hearing anything from me, nor am I hearing anything from anyone. Honestly.

Most of the time, I'm just talking to people without any real idea what I'm saying, and most of the time I'm not listening to whoever is talking to me.

Life needs to slow down just a little bit. I didn't realize this until reading your post and your question at the end.

So what am I hearing from you? Not much, but you're making me listen to myself, so maybe I *am* hearing something.

  7. wow what a beautiful post HE! ppl r like songs indeed.

**Most Songs rely on a Producer

    I love that one.

**WHAT ARE PEOPLE HEARING FROM YOU?

that u'd have to tell me or else I'd be just saying what I prefer ppl to hear me as. :)

**and what are you hearing from me?

Im hearing wisdom, intelligence, knowledge, sensibility, humor, love and humanity. A perfect blend of Rock and Grunge. ;-)

Keep you're 40, I'll just have an Earl Grey tea

    Tiptoe to the window,
by the window that is where I'll be
Come tiptoe through the tulips with me!
Tiptoe from your pillow, to the shadow of a willow tree
And tiptoe through the tulips with me!

    dinahmow,

I could feel at the time
There was no way of knowing
    Fallen leaves in the night
Who can say where they´re blowing
    As free as the wind
    And hopefully learning
Why the sea on the tide
    Has no way of turning
More than this - there is nothing

I was alive and I waited, waited
I was alive and I waited for this
    Right here, Right now
There is no other place I want to be
    Right here, Right now
Watching the world wake up from history

    stace,

'Cause it's a bittersweet symphony, this life
    Trying to make ends meet
You're a slave to money then you die
I'll take you down the only road I've ever been down
You know the one that takes you to the places
where all the veins meet yeah

    There's battle lines being drawn
    Nobody's right if everybody's wrong
    Young people speaking their minds
Getting so much resistance from behind
I think it's time we stop, hey, what's that sound
    Everybody look what's going down

    keshiroo,

Ohhhhh, listening to you I get the music.
Gazing at you I get the heat.
Following you I climb the mountain.
I get excitement at your feet!
Right behind you I see the millions.
On you I see the glory.
    From you I get opinions.
From you I get the story.
    Listening to you!

    firsty,
    (Neil Young)

Once I thought I saw you
    in a crowded hazy bar,
    Dancing on the light
    from star to star.
    Far across the moonbeam
I know that's who you are,
    I saw your brown eyes
    turning once to fire.

    You are like a hurricane
    There's calm in your eye.
    And I'm gettin' blown away
    To somewhere safer
    where the feeling stays.
I want to love you but
    I'm getting blown away.

    The SONG not the Vocalist..
Natalie Merchant did a great version if you want to hear a female vocalist sing it.

No I get more of the 'wonder about the universe' feel from you which I think that song expresses...
"who can say where they're blowing"

..one of my favorite lines EVER!
It was totally mean't as a compliment my Dear.

I decided long ago, never to walk in anyone's shadows
If I fail, if I succeed
At least I live as I believe
No matter what they take from me
They can't take away my dignity
Because the greatest love of all
    Is happening to me

Life is very short, and there's no time
For fussing and fighting, my friend
I have always thought that it's a crime
So I will ask you once again

Try to see it my way
Only time will tell if I am right or I am wrong
While you see it your way
There's a chance that we may fall apart before too long
    We can work it out
    We can work it out

    shelley,
    (Pat Kickass Benatar)

You come on with a come on, you dont fight fair
But thats o.k., see if I care!
Knock me down, its all in vain
I'll get right back on my feet again!

Hit me with your best shot!
Why dont you hit me with your best shot!
Hit me with your best shot!
    Fire away!

We're all the same but then again we're all quite different in our own peculiar ways
We've come so far and now we're going through another phase
    But it's alright
    We made it so far

As we all know it's hard to breathe when something spiritual has taken place
We don't know why we don't know how we've been transformed into a state of grace
    But it's alright
    We walk in our sleep
    Yes it's alright
This is rapture of the deep

  24. Insert the word "conversations" instead of SONGS... this too is true. We say what we feel and different conversations can take different tones, etc etc.
From me, you hear what I feel, and what I say may get stuck in your mind like a one track record...a bropken record. LOL
I used to have a saying back in the 80's..the word was, "Grouse".
"You are so GROUSE", "That is so GROUSE", "Wham are so GROUSE" , LOL. My best freind came from a country town, they never heard this word before, soon enough, like shit stuck to a wall, they would say GROUSE like it was a word they owned, LOL.
Yep, I rubbed off on them :)

    allan,
    Did you mean..

    KATE:
Out on the wiley, windy moors
We'd roll and fall in green.
You had a temper like my jealousy:
    Too hot, too greedy.
    How could you leave me,
When I needed to possess you?
I hated you. I loved you, too.

    OZZY:
Ive seen your face a hundred times
    Everyday weve been apart
I dont care about the sunshine, yeah
cause mama, mama, Im coming home
    Im coming home

    KATE:
    Bad dreams in the night
You told me I was going to lose the fight,

    OZZY:
You took me in and you drove me out
    Yeah, you had me hypnotized
Lost and found and turned around
By the fire in your eyes

1997 The Bee Gees - To Love Somebody

    There's a light
    A certain kind of light
    That never shone on me
I want my life to be
    Lived with you
    Lived with you.
    There's a way
    Everybody says
To do each and every little thing
But what good does it bring
    If I ain't got you,
    Ain't got ?
Babe, you don't know what it's like,
Baby, you don't know what it's like
    To love somebody
    To love somebody
    The way I love you

    In my brain
    I see your face again
I know my frame of mind
You ain’t got to be so blind
    And I'm blind,
    So so very blind
    Cos I'm a man,
Can't you see what I am
I live and breathe for you
But what good does it do
    If I ain't got you,
    Ain't got ?

Babe, you don't know what it's like,
Baby, you don't know what it's like.

    To love somebody
    To love somebody
    The way I love you

    Ohhh…
You don't know what it's like,

    and I wanna be evil,

I want to wake up in the morning
    with that dark brown taste
I want to see some dissipation in my face
I wanna be evil, I wanna be mad
But more that that I wanna be bad

I wanna be evil, and trump an ace,
Just to see my partner's face.
I wanna be nasty, I wanna be cruel
I wanna be daring, I wanna shoot pool

    And in the theatre
I want to change my seat
Just so I can step on
    Everybody's feet

I wanna be evil, I wanna hurt flies
I wanna sing songs like the guy who cries
I wanna be horrid, I wanna drink booze
And whatever I've got I'm eager to lose

I wanna be evil, little evil me
Just as mean and evil as I can be

Wooo hooo witchy woman, see how
    High she flies
Woo hoo witchy woman she got

She held me spellbound in the night

    And I agree with Freddy
(Mercury, not your horse, although I haven't asked him)

"I'm knitting with only one needle
    Unravelling fast it's true
I'm driving only three wheels these days
But my dear how about you

    I'm going slightly mad
    I'm going slightly mad
    It finally happened
It finally happened - oh yes

    I'm slightly mad
    Just very slightly mad

  34. This is what plays in my soul:

Mary Chapin Carpenter "I Take My Chances"

I took a walk in the rain one day on the wrong side of the tracks
I stood on the rails till I saw that train
Just to see how my heart would react
Now some people say that you shouldn't tempt fate
And for them I would not disagree
But I never learned nothing from playing it safe
I say fate should not tempt me

I take my chances, I don't mind working without a net
I take my chances, I take my chances every chance I get

I sat alone in the dark one night, tuning in by remote
I found a preacher who spoke of the light but there was brimstone in his throat
He'd show me the way according to him in return for my personal check
I flipped my channel back to CNN and I lit another cigarette

I take my chances, forgiveness doesn't come with a debt
I take my chances, I take my chances every chance I get

I've crossed lines of words and wire and both have cut me deep
I've been frozen out and I've been on fire and the tears are mine to weep
Now I can cry until I laugh and laugh until I cry
So cut the deck right in half, I'll play from either side

I take my chances, I pay my dollar and I place my bet
I take my chances, I take my chances every chance I get
I take my chances, I don't cling to remorse or regret
I take my chances, I take my chances every chance I get
    I take my chances

Oddly enough, I hear "Major Tom" for you. It's a Bowie thing I guess. LOL

  35. An old song I love is one that has recently resurfaced in some commercial (ack!) and I haven't been able to get it out of my head for weeks (not that I really want to):

What are you doing the rest of your life?
    North and South and East
    And West of your life?
I have only one request of your life
That you spend it all with me...

All the seasons and the times of your days
All the nickels and the dimes of your days
Let the reasons and the rhymes of your days
All begin and end with me...

I want to see your face
    In every kind of light
    In fields of gold and
    Forests of the night
    And when you stand before
    The candles on a cake
Oh let me be the one to hear
    The silent wish you make

Those tomorrows waiting deep in your eyes
In the world of love you keep in your eyes
I'll awaken what's asleep in your eyes
It may take a kiss or two...

    Throu-ough all of my life
Summer, Winter, Spring and Fall of my life
All I ever will recall of my life
    Is all of my life
    With you...ou-ou...
